Etna Volcano

The majestic profile of Etna dominates all over the territory of Acireale; it is a living mountain with its thousands of colours and shapes. The gigantic shape of Etna, on the eastern coast of Sicily, towers above the trasparent Ionian sea that ranges from the lavic cliff of the isle to the waters of the ancient Greece. It's impossible to escape the fascination of the volcano, inspirer of poets, philosophers and travellers. It attracts even the modern excursionist's attention for the possibility to go up to the central crater. To protect the flora, the fauna and natural environment, a Naturale Park of Etna, coverig an area of 59.000 hectares, has been instituted. Proper lane have been ristored to consent easy excursions. Etna is the symbol of Poliphemus' myth and of Aci and Galatea. It is the living mountain of the Mediteranean. It is the extraordinary variety of the landscape with the black of its millenary lava flows, with the colours of its woods, with the blue sea of Acireale and Taormina. It is the white snow caressed by the eastern sun. It is the tracks and the ski lifts of Linguaglossa and Nicolosi, where the skies cut trails in the myths of history and nature.
